It's been a few days since we got our first look at the Nintendo Switch. The video has brought up more questions than answers, and we're only six months out until the Nintendo Switch is released. In this video, I want to go over the Top 5 questions that are still unanswered about the Nintendo Switch.
Question #1: What are the specs?
The Nintendo Switch first look video provided no hints at the specs. We know at least that the GPU is running a Nvidia Tegra processor, but we have no idea on the CPU, RAM or Storage. We also don't know much about the display regarding size or resolution. I'm hoping that we get better than 720p on the display screen although I would like it to be a 1080p display. Also on the docking station, does it output 1080p to the TV or upscale to 4K similar to what the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One S do? I sure hope it does. What about internal storage? Are we going to get 64 GB? I'm hoping for 128 GB or 256 GB. It's a bit worrisome that we are six months away from launch and we have no hard specs. Typically we get all this information when a console is announced months before it's launch.
Question #2: Battery Life In Portable Mode?
This question is probably the most important for how well the Nintendo Switch will do. Battery life while in portable mode will need to be something that can last a few gaming sessions while on the move. I have a feeling they are going to say 4 hours which is not going to be enough for most. If it can do 5 - 8 hours or nail it down to 6 hours of battery life on the go, I think Nintendo will be really successful in convincing people that the Nintendo Switch is a legit portable console.
Question #3: Expandable Storage?
While we don't know much about the internal storage but I think for this being a portable device external storage is key. Being able to add more than what it comes will allow gamers to bring a big library of games with them on the go. Storage limits are the last thing this new console needs to prevent it from being a success.
Question #4: Mobile 4G LTE Connection?
Are we going to be able to game online on the go? If so we're going to need an LTE connection inside the Nintendo Switch. I'm sure the system will have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi but when you're not near Wi-Fi and want to play online your going to need a 4G connection. Sure you can tether to your phone but having it build it would be a great advantage.
Question #5: Price? Price? Price?
The price point is going to be critical for the Nintendo Switch success. It has to be priced right against the PS4 Pro, Xbox One S and Project Scorpio coming next year. They also need to make sure they can move units to make 3rd party developers happy and want to develop for the console. So anywhere between $199 and $299 would be where they want to put this at. $299 would be the max they could sell with maybe $249 being the happy medium, but if they want to push units, they will want to drop this at a $199 price point and make it easy for folks to pick this up at a store right away.
There are what I fee are the top 5 questions for the Nintendo switch but share your thoughts and comments below and let us know what you think.
